History of Xen-AoE

Where it's been

I started using Xen around 2005 to implement virtualization on my own personal server when I got tired of maintaining 4 different pieces of hardware with an eye out for ways that my clients might benefit from this technology. It worked great and allowed me to consolidate all of my server resources into one box. Around the same time I discovered AoE (ATA over Ethernet). I thought it was a great idea and might make for an easy and inexpensive SAN. Pretty soon it became clear that if you pair Xen with AoE you get some pretty cool possibilities.

But it wasn't until DrJays (go there and buy some cool fashion clothes!) came along that I found someone interested in sponsoring the project by buying the hardware and giving me time to get it working for which I am very grateful. As of December 2006 DrJays has a highly available, scalable, virtualized, and best of all affordable cluster which allows them to be more competitive than others in their industry.

And the rest is yet to come...
